Agloval: Sword of Justice

This was my submission for Cubebrush's Art War contest Feb 2017. I was inspired by the sense of religious awe in Renaissance art, and wanted to create a character that embodied that. The prompt was to create a champion, so I decided to create a holy warrior.

Here's his back story: Agloval was a powerful mercenary who killed anyone as long as the money was right. When he final met his match in battle and lay dying, Death came to him and offered him a deal: Agloval could remain on earth if he became one of Death's swordsmen. Agloval, greedy for life, quickly agreed; however, his new existence wasn't exactly what he expected. To atone for all the undeserving murders he committed in life, Agloval lost his earthly vision, and could only see people marked for a just demise. And while he still physically walked the earth, he no longer truly belonged there, and other living creatures were subconsciously repelled by him. Now he lives out this lonely existence, fulfilling Death's duty.
